Madam,

I am directed by Vr Secretary Tercourt te

inform you that he proposes to select you for appoint- ment as a Hurse in the Hong Kong Vedical Department with

salary at the rate of £110 rising after three yours' service to £150 per annum. Sterling salaries are

payable in the folony in dollars at a rate of oxchange

fixed monthly by the Govermont and based on the

average exchange value of the dollar during the morth

ending on the 15th day of the munth in respect of which

the payment is made. When, however, such average value exceeds 2/- salaries are paid ut 2/- to the dollar.

2. It la to be understood that your engage sent

is for not more than five years from the date of your

arrival in the Colony; and that, if it ie established

to the satisfaction of the Governor that you are not

qualified for efficient service there he will, subject

to the confirmation of the Secretary of State, have full power to cancel your appointment at any time within the said five years without giving you any further compensation than a passage back to Zgland, which will be granted only if the Governor is satisfied that you have, by your good conduct deserved it.
